hello buggers, its been awhile. 2 things to note this coming week...

Firstly, The Cage @ Kallang has been booked for this coming Friday, 23rd March 2007 from 2-6pm. So for those who said they'll be coming... better do.

Also, an invitation has been received from the AFL regarding a friendly next Sunday, 25th March 2006, 5pm at Regent Sec. Opposition unknown, but we'll have to cough up about $85 for the friendly. Those who can make it please sms me asap so that we can quickly confirm. Hope you guys can make it as I think this would make a better sending off for them april army boys as well as chinaman quek, who will be flying off soon for attachment. Also we would wanna show them organizers what the AFL's been missing right... Or more like Cherie Hearts who refuseeeee to sponsor us ah, damn.

SunSport Soccer Tournament @ Fernvale

Hi guys,

this is the long awaited directions post for this Saturday's competition opposite Fernvale Primary School.

This Saturday, we will be meeting at SENGKANG MRT CONTROL STATION at 1:15pm sharp.

From there, we will still have to take LRT to FERNVALE LRT STATION. Therefore, those of you who are taking MRT to Sengkang, PLEASE DO NOT TAP OUT.

For those staying in the East, I suggest you guys take Taxi together to Sengkang MRT as it'll waste a lot of time if you take MRT there. Next, please remember to make your way to the control station to meet everyone else.

Finally, PLEASE BE ON TIME. We will leave at 1.15pm sharp.

Update: In answer to Neil's question, yes we are going to wear they jersey we used for AFL, not the black one.

Confirmation.

Lads, it has been confirmed with regards to who the chosen ones are. A total of 14 will be participating in the tournament:

Boon, Quek, Neil, Tan, Sam, Josh, JR, Meng, Joey, Farhan, Wah, Long, Bak and Ng.

It will be held on the 25th of November, with the venue yet to be confirmed. I'll need you guys to transfer $15 for registration into my POSB Savings account ( 209-01121-2 ) latest by FRIDAY 3 NOVEMBER as i need to submit the registraion forms plus a picture of us by the 5th.

Picture wise it would be the one taken when we lost our virginity in AFL to the housemovers.

Anyway, there's less than a month's time to the tournament. I know most of us are in quite bad shape already due to the lack of footballitis in our blood.

So til then, Work hard and Train hard.

Dead, isin't it?

It's been a while since there are any recent incidents with regards to this blog of ours...

A few days back i received a phone call from the main official of Espzen. He called and was informing me about this particular national 7-a-side field tournament that he is organising and would wish for me to come up with a team to participate. I was very interested in the idea of playing competitively as we have 'rust' since our AFL journey ended.

I would be selecting 13 players from our squad to participate in this tournament. So far i have got 12 names who are willing to put their foot in(and hands for JR) in a bid to win some honours for SLK- Adrian Tan, Quek, Neil, Josh, Joey, Long, Farhan, Bak, Wah, Sam, JR and myself. Augustine "Thunderlegs" Soong got his hands occupied(literally) as he is having a bowling competition during that day. That leaves 1 more slot to fill. If you think you can play feel free to drop me a sms to inform me. Shall see how it goes, but please do so asap as i need to submit the forms by this coming Monday.

The format of the competition goes like this:

They will be taking up the World Cup format. 32 groups of 4 teams each play it out in a bid to progress through the qualifying rounds. The top 2 teams from each group will progress into the next round and live to fight another day. There are 4 days to choose to play the qualifying rounds- 11,12,25 and 26 Novemeber. I will be going for 25 Novemeber(Saturday) for us. This tournament has 3 categories- Under 14, Under 18 and Open category. Ours is of course the Under 18 category. I think we stand a very good chance eh...

As you can see, this is a large scale event. The further stages would even have media coverage(pretty cool eh). Each team has to pay $200 registration fee. Works out to $15 per head for us. We would be playing at least 3 games, each timed at half an hour. That gives us at least 1.5 hours of solid football. We would be given either an Adidas or Nike matchball to go along as well.

That said, i would be hoping that the players who have confirmed to be able to play turn up tomorrow for our weekly street soccer kickabout. Special JC guests Joey(whoa!!!!) and Farhan are even turning up. Shall discuss with you lads more tomorrow then.

O yea, the top prize is $1000 cash plus trophy and medals. If we win, Tour di Bintan sua.....

SLK Season Review!

alright just like every other team in the EPL or maybe AFL does.. we too have a season review haha so, i am gonna start from matchday 1.

Matchday 1: Siling Soccerer House Movers vs SLK Football Club

in the words of the legendary axl rose of guns n' roses fame, this was really welcome to the jungle for us. a completely different feeling from frequent friendly games with the cj team, roller coaster, we were given a stern warning of what the AFL was gonna be about. the lack of match fitness allowed siling to dominate most of the game, resulting in a score of 4-1, with terence pulling a goal back, scoring SLK's first ever competitive league goal.

Matchday 2: SLK Football Club vs Team Sofeene Football Club

ah, the team once feared. with luck on the side of the mats plus pre-match knowledge of the team intimidating us a little, we were haplessly trounced 7-0 at tampines secondary field. respect was gained for this team of mats, but not for long.... till the second outing.

Matchday 3: Real Madraz Football Club vs SLK Football Club

matchday fatigue? this game was one best forgotten, and not to mention the crazy travelling we had to do across the country for this one. think argentina vs serbia & montenegro during the recent world cup. 6-0 final score.

Matchday 4: SLK Football Club vs Team Inpulse Football Club

it had been a long time coming, but our first point! finally something for us lads to smile about. before the game those asses in red were like 'eh this match sure trash them one la'. so they brought their video camera, some skanky ah lians, in the hope for a trashing and some celebrations. only for them to struggle to score a controversial goal and terence to put the finger on their lips with an equalizing goal, together with a fernando torres inspired celebration. 1-1 the final result.

Matchday 5: YV United Football Club vs SLK Football Club

relegation candidate vs runaway league leader. david vs goliath but we gave them a run for their money. we worked hard and did our best not to be outclassed. we showed real spirit and never gave up. though the game ended as a 2 -1 defeat for us, it definately showed that we were capable of competing with the top team.

Matchday 6: SLK Football Club vs Siling Soccerer House Movers

the one that slipped away. after a sensational goal by sam giving SLK the lead for the very first time in the AFL, and a red card for one of those indians, most of us thought a 1-0 win and our 1st 3 points were on the cards, only to fall victim to a siling backlash, with the final score 2-3 staring right back in our faces. but we knew... the AFL had only just begun for us.

Matchday 7: SRCDeaf Football Club vs. SLK Football Club

at last at last, our very first 3 points. despite their disability, they were a really tough opponent to play against, with their tireless running and distracting hardgay noises (HOOOOOO!). but nonetheless, an early double by josh secured all 3 points, together with SRCDeaf failing to find the net after numerous sitters. and oh, not forgetting our keeper's heroics, JR. aahhaha. 2-0 it ended.

Matchday 8: Team Sofeene Football Club vs. SLK Football Club

scarfest 2006, a match we would never forget. as any point dropped would mean a severe dent in sofeene's title hopes, horrendous and unnecessary tackles came flying a plenty when weixing, one of our mid-season additions scored a magnificent equalizing goal, completing our comeback from 3-1 down, a fantastic result for us. but it came at a hefty price, as a fractured ankle kept JR out for most of the remainder of the season, and a strong elbow kept sam out for the next game against real madraz.

Matchday 9: SLK Football Club vs Real Madraz Football Club

our best match to date. a 6-3 whopping of Real Madraz. nobody had expected us to win this match, given the fact we got raped the last time we played them. it was a match where the madraz bench was seemingly depleted and in comparison to an almost complete SLK squad, they were no match for us. 2 goals from josh, 1 from quek and a hat-trick from gus completed the rout. an unforgettable match to say the least.

Matchday 10: Team Inpulse Football Club vs. SLK Football Club

with video cam and skanky ah lians (some) brushed aside, this time Inpulse meant business. with SLK fielding a lacklustre and a worn out pre-exam side, we were trounced 5-1, with the question of commitment becoming a big issue after the game. only being able to name a bench of 3 was certainly inexcusable.

Matchday 11: SLK Football Club vs. YV United Football Club

outwitted, outplayed, outclassed. YV United controlled the game from start to finish as easy as operating your everyday teewee remote control. with a totally changed starting 11 with no substitutes at all, they were brilliant throughout, and they secured the championship after a smashing 17-1 win. deserved champions indeed, we applaud them.

Matchday 12: SLK Football Club vs. SRCDeaf Football Club

ah, those hardgays again. they sure came back with a vengeance, playing well despite the poor ground and weather conditions. as bedok green was not the best of grounds to slide and land your ass on, it contributed to poor performances from most of the lads, resulting in a 7-3 defeat, auggy and quek making the score more respectable.

Matchday 13: SLK Football Club vs. UTS Football Club

lo and behold, from a bunch of joker ah peks we played against during the postponed 1st outing, to a group of construction workers/illegal immigrants/indo/malaysian buggers. this was one team we would least expect to be at the bottom of the league. as always, its always the case of the speedy and tricky wingers, leaving our full backs running more worse off than terry fox. bright side to the game was that we held them for quite a period of time in the match, only to lose steam towards the end. despite quek being on fire and gunning for auggy's top scorer spot, it was still not meant to be for another victory. another trashing for SLK, this time 8-3 the final scoreline.

Matchday 14: UTS Football Club vs. SLK Football Club

Final game of the season ended up in shambles, another 5-1 trashing by the same team being the final score. despite the loss, the efforts we put in despite a small team like ours was definitely something to be proud of, and it was good enough a conclusion to our first ever league adventure. a million claps could never be enough for those who turn in week in week out to play their hearts out, match after match.

So there goes our first season of AFL.

Very fulfiling experience it has to be said. But since it's over, it's time to get back to our routine BUT NEVER dull street soccer at marine terrace every saturday morning at 9.

The more the merrier, so everyone lets try make it a habit to get back down every saturday. Haha.

its the last game of the season.
wheres the commitment we talked about at the start?
i havent been there as well due to the exams
and im sure end of year exams for the poly students are also not to any degree less important.
i applaud those who are there week in week out.
people like meng, quek for example.
they have unwilting passion of the game.
but thats all in the past now.
now lets focus on the game ahead.
thats against uts
remember how we allowed them to have a decent draw
the previous time in the rain when we met?
we are capable of winning them.

from the beginnings when we plyed our trade on the courts of marine parade.
we have moved to gan eng seng where we fought and won many battles.
now we are in a tournament.
almost out of the "relegation" zone no less.
a long way we have come.
and so only time can prove what we can do.
with new additions like ong and gus to our side.
we have bolstered our firepower to become a side capable of great things.
last sunday's lost could only strengthen our vendetta against uts.
its at sunday, its against uts, its at choa chu kang
the place where it began
and the place where it all ends.
so let this sundays game be the best and most memorable one.
i would give my all.

Last game of the season

Hey guys, Daryl here taking time off studying, or more like not wanting to, to write here..

Kk i know i'm not been an integral part of slk this season.. appearing less than 5 matches overall.. And slk has recently been in a slump, losing match after match after a morale boosting mid season..

Although you guys can't say this is unexpected as it was expected the jc guys can't make it during the end season where prelim starts, and since the beginning there had been bets flying around whether we'd be last in the season..

Next Sunday is our last game.. I'm sure we'll be happy to know that JC prelims are over and many of us are able to rejoin the squad.. Lets make the finale one to remember.. One to show why UTS had negative points the whole season..Lets give a little effort training throughout the week to toughen our flabby muscles attained over the exams..

We should provide backup too because we can't expect everything to run smoothly..

Kk, so i guess thats the end of this season guys.. If we are to continue in next season there are some homework to do..
1) Find sufficient players for every match.. At least 13 of 90%sure will make it to the match..
2) Define each one to each role and at least name the starting 11 before each match so players know when they are crucial to turn up
3) Playing format so players know what they are suppose to do

Haiya, the new season's so far away, we have gained priceless experience from this season and we should be proud of ourselves for getting so far

Are we falling at a rate like no other?

Sunday's game against SRC Deaf produced another lacklustre display from the SLK lads. Once again new faces are introduced to the 'senior' members of the squad. Although we have to thank them for turning up, the introduction of these 'new blood' will ultimately disrupt our style of play(if we ever have one) due to the lack of communication.

The loss of 7-3 was a result that, fortunately, could no longer affect the spirits of the lads who bothered to turn up. Goals from Auggy(2) and Quek made the scoreline more respectable. However, it is rather sad to see the state SLK is in right now, and everyone's mind is just to complete the season and get over with it.

The last 2 games are against UTS. I won't be able to turn up this sunday, so i hope the rest of you can make yourself free and make up the numbers. These 2 games are there for the taking, so let's grab these opportunities to claim 6 points and end our season in a respectable position.

Train hard and work hard. Til sunday..... Wait.

The Fallen.

It felt as though we were virgins once again.

We were up against YV United, the soon-to-be champions of the AFL league. Boasting a sqaud of professional and commited players, they were a team to be feared. A victory against a team that consists of a number of provisonal players would result in them securing top spot and declared as league champions.

It was simply a day where everything went wrong for us. In the words of yours truly, we were "poked pretty badly". Our players watched in awe as the YV players tore and rip through our defence and gave our stand-in keeper a traumatising virginal experience(rumour has it he has since decided to hang up his gloves). The socreline of 17-1 was hard to believe, with many queries to be answered. The main one being- Where were you when SLK needed you most?

Kudos to Gaffer for acknowledging the efforts of the lads who bothered to turn up. The post-match treat of macs sweeten the bitter taste of the horrible defeat. His support was well appreciated, but it must have been hard on him to stomach the massacre of SLK during the match.

The next game will be against SRC Deaf at Bedok Green Secondary School. With the match being located in the East region, i EXPECT a bigger turnout this sunday. Please inform me should you not be able to turn up. An early response is well appreciated. Please do take care of yourself and not get injured prior to the match on Sunday. Try to keep yourself free of work or other events on that day too to prevent a major lashing out from your fellow mates.

Sunday's game was a game to remember...for the wrong reasons.

seems like this blog's getting more and more redundant as days go by... so being the kind soul that i am (always been haha), i shall update.

yup so we got raped 17-1 by newly crowned champions YV united. a way shitty scoreline to be thrashed given our standards, but so what? they truly deserved to be champions in every aspect. they won us fair and square, no foul play, no referee or even afl complaints. skill wise, they were just brilliant, too much for a team having the bare minimum to handle.

to sum up our worst ever defeat, i think boon's post on commitment should just be posted again.

Back with a vengence.

It's been hectic for the lads this past week as studies became our top priority. Our league resumes this sunday and we are up against the runaway leaders of the evening league-YV. With clearly 11 points ahead of the poor and not-so-gracious loser Team Sofeene, YV seemed all set to wrap the title. With 4 games remaining, a win against us would result in them winning the league. But i say let's make them wait another week to claim the title. Let's say we get ourselves a win this time round.

This sunday's game would be held at Choa Chu Kang Secondary School. Let's meet up at 3.30pm at the Choa Chu Kang MRT control station. From there, we would be taking bus service 190 and will alight near a mosque ( remember that time we joked about YV having 'secret prayers' for the players... )

A note to mention: Kudos to the JC lads for giving their all throughout the earlier phases of AFL. Sad to say we would be without their services for the remainder of the season due to educational commitments. Nevertheless, we shall give it our all- for the JC lads and of course, for SLK.

Work hard and train hard. The season is coming to an end. Til sunday we shall meet.

oh the woe...

1, 2, 3 games unbeaten, only for SLK to fall back to earth at the 4th. SLK's unbeaten run finally came to an end, with inpulse inflicting our first defeat in 4 games. well we've only fallen back to 6th due to SRCDeaf's victory over UTS, we've still got 4 more games, a maximum of 12 points to propel us back up. so, keep the hard work going lads.

knowing that we were supposed to win during the previous outing at ahmad ibrahim sec against team inpulse, many of us including myself thought this should be a stroll in the park given our red hot form. alas, it was not meant to be after all.

once again SLK were hit with the same problem as the beginning few games of the season; the lack of substitutes. due to the absence of key players like captain and ong to name a few, we were only able to name a substitutes bench of 3, which was one advantage team inpulse took big time.

the lack of players meant that SLK had to start the game with a number of changes to the side, even with players having to play and switchabout positions they were not familiar with. Jansher started in place of the captain's preferred centre back role, while Farhan, normally a right winger, having to play at left flank instead.

With the sweltering heat plus the bumpy field, we knew we were in for one hell of a game as warned by gaffer. And true enough, about 15 mins was all it took for team inpulse to get their 1st goal, after a defensive mix-up in the penalty area and constant pressuring from inpulse strikers. 1-0 to the noisy reds.

the lack of communication between the defence made SLK pay a hefty price as it would go on to contribute to the goals we conceded. miscommunication between tan and sam allowed the inpulse striker to play his way through both, scoring noisy reds' second.

then came a glimmer of hope. SLK started taking the game to inpulse, with constant pressuring and creative build up play, which contributed to our first few corners of the game. A dangerous corner by quek into the penalty area forced inpulse to concede a handball. cool as you like, quek placed it into the bottom left hand corner, pulling a goal back for SLK, which left us still trailing at 2-1.

a defensive error later on by sam cost SLK dear, as unknown from inpulse was able to beat the offside trap, restoring inpulse's 2 goal cushion. 3-1 to the noisy reds at half time.

somehow, SLK were not able to have that same positive mentality as the time we went 3-1 down to team sofeene at the half time break. and that was one huge cause for concern. down and dejected, we dragged ourselves onto the pitch for the second half.

despite good pressuring defence from bak, the curse of the own goal struck for him once again as he conceded an own goal despite his efforts to clear the ball out for a corner. 4-1 to noisy reds.
with SLK all worn out as the clock ticked on, more sloppy defending allowed inpulse to put the icing on the cake, scoring their 5th and final goal, final score being 5-1 to the noisy reds.

kudos to inpulse, for their speedy and attacking style of play, causing us to lose a match we for once deserved to lose. this game really emphasised on the point mind over body, as this was one match we gave up from the early minutes of the second half. but with key players coming back for the next game against league leaders YV united in 2 weeks, we will definitely give them old bastards something to worry about.

work hard and best wishes for the exams lads. study hard, and bet smart (EPL haha).

Match Against Team Inpulse @ East View Sec

Hi all, I'm back by popular demand. Didn't know I was so popular, I'm so touched.

Anyway.

We'll meet at Tampines Interchange (Macdonald's) at 3:30pm sharp.

From there we'll take Bus Service 18 or 38 to East View Sec. According to my friend, it is suppose to be 3 stops, so if it's wrong don't blame me blame my friend. So we'll find our way there after that. As usual, those not meeting please inform Adrian or myself.

Red Hot

7 points out of a possible 9 from the past 3 games says it all. SLK's sizzling hot form is simply unmatchable( please don't take YV and Sofeene into account ). We have slowly edged our way out of the relegation zone and into mid-table, which clearly is above our expectations considering our standards.

Life ain't that predictable.

The lads were fired up to keep their unbeaten streak going into this game. Our stable custodian-Chang Jie Rui was unfortunately ruled out of this fixture as he got 'brawled' from the previous game from the opposing players, which resulted in him being admitted into hospital due to a fractured foot which could probably spell the end of the season for him. The lads were determined to win the remaining games for him and the players who were unable to make it due to personal commitments.

The previous meeting saw SLK receiving a sound 6-0 thrashing from the Madraz players. On that occasion, many key players were unable to turn up. The tables seemed to have turned on this occasion, with Madraz having only 11 players turning up. This was an advantage SLK could take.

SLK made several changes to their usual preferred starting 11, with Roy making his debut in goal.

It was pretty intense and tight for the first 20mins as players from both sides tried to settle down quickly. In the 27th min, great play from Ong resulted in a defence-splitting pass from him towards Auggy who timed his run perfectly. With a fine flick of his boot, Auggy lobbed the on-rushing keeper from 20m. A fine finish to end a fine move. 1-0 to SLK.

The lads were hungry for more. Instead of playing ala Liverpool, they tried to create more goal-scoring opportunities. At aroung the 40th min, great team play from SLK saw Quek pouncing on a loose ball and calmly slotting it into the bottom corner. 2-0 to SLK.

What happened next was unfortunate.

At the stroke of half-time, Madraz was awarded a corner kick. A beautifully floated ball into the SLK penalty area was headed on by "Peter Crouch" ( he is damn tall eh.. ) towards the far end of the post. Our man-on-the-line Farhan deflected it away, only for it to rebound of Roy, who made a diving attempt for the earlier effort, and into goal.

2-1 to SLK at half-time.

Withing the first 10mins of the 2nd half, SLK saw themselves going 3-2 down after slack play from the lads. The lads refused to let a similar scenario occur as per against Siling. Joshua fired the lads up with a magnificent solo effort, taking on 3 defenders before calmly provided a class finish. 3-3.

The turning point of the game. Auggy lined up to take a free-kick outside the penalty area. His ferocious strike was direct at the Madraz keeper, but unfortunately for him and much appreciated from us, he mishandled the ball and Auggy got his 2nd goal in the match. 4-3 to SLK, and the Madraz lads were clearly showing signs of fatigue.

As Madraz put more men forward in a bid to equalise, it meant that the SLK lads have more space to exploit. Quickk counter-attacks led to Auggy getting his hat-trick, before assisting Quek for his 2nd of the match. 6-3 was the final scoreline.

Great play to Madraz. They pushed us all the way and taught us not to be complacent in future games. The lads were on a high and off we went to celebrate our victory, and the curtain-raiser for the EPL- the Charity Shield!

Let's keep this unbeaten streak going. Inpulse is next.( who wants the balllllllllll?? )

The best result thus far for SLK. 3-3 against Team Sofeene definately shows that we have been improving from match to match.

It was a game that many felt we would lose, as we experienced a 7-0 mauling during the previous meeting between SLK and Sofeene.

But before I get underway with the report, I must say we though the referee going AWOL till 5.40 affected our momentum.

Ok, so we started off the match slowly and cautiously, not wanting to be overawed by their slick passing. They created a few openings early on which served as a warning to us but as hard as we tried, we conceded a highly controversial goal about a quarter into the first half.

Joshua, full of running managed to head us back to level terms with a typical poacher's goal resulting from a neat freekick by Gus. A cheeky lob that cut right inbetween the defence caused confusion and allowed Josh to head the ball over the on rushing keeper. That put us on a high for the next 60 seconds till Sofeene took back the lead with an unstoppable volley that flew right into the top corner SLK goal.

2-1 at half time.

We revised our game plan and went out fighting in the second half. With Quek and "Daryl" doing good work down the right flank and upfront, we managed to carve out a handful of good scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, our attacking strategy left gaps in centre midfield and at the back which allowed Sofeene to slip in another goal, even though Jie Rui was having a decnt outing, making many important interceptions and saves.

Midway through the second half, Joshua had possesion down the left flank and took the ball up to the penalty box where he laid off the ball to Gus. With "Daryl" pulling away the defenders, Gus unleashed a scorcher which crashed onto the right upright and out. A good chance wasted.

However, we didnt have to wait long to bring the game back to life. Gus was obstructed en route to goal and the referee blew for a free kick instead of allwing the advantage. This proved to be the turning point as Gus pulled a goal back with a perfect freekick into the top corner.

This brought SLK to life and we pushed on for an equaliser. With Chris being the defensive backbone of the team, he held firm and allowed SLK to push forward and attack. Late on in the match, Wei Xin got the all important equaliser that deflated Sofeene. An expertly taken goal brought the game to 3-3. A match that SLK wont forget.

Let's match this performance for our next match and we'll be able to get our second win.

We were unfortunate to lose ( as per all the games we lost )... This time it was a case of........... hey wait a minute.....

FINALLY... after 49027 seconds of footballing action, SLK finally realised that the key to winning matches is actually......

Plying our trade at the somehow 'short' Bedok Green Secondary School field, we managed to outplay, outlast and outhear the players of SRC Deaf. 2 well taken goals from Joshua "Riquelme" Sandosham gave us a comfortable lead. Despite the mad attempts by SRC (seriously mad i tell you.. the ball just seemed to refuse to go into the back of the net for them.) , they couldn't get themselves a goal. The lads were organised and played attractive football, and SLK keeper Chang "Ego Boost" Jie Rui turned out to be a key factor in keeping a clean sheet.

Sheer jubilation upon hearing the final whistle for the SLK lads. On the other end, sheer disappointment for SRC upon seeing the final flag being raised.

It was a good game overall. One that the lads of SLK will definitely not forget.

Next up, Team Sofeene. This time round, with a stronger squad as compared to the previous occasion( whereby we lost 7-0 ), chances are high that we can push Sofeene all the way.

This time round, we will win.

Train hard and work hard. Til tomorrow we shall meet. Ahaha.

For those driving, (only one hahaha) you can follow my route, ( the ones labelled 1,2,3,4 itself) and park at the place labelled "CP". That's a carpark lol.
For those walking, you can follow the route (A, B) to the field.

Public transport is aplenty around that area, those taking bus 14 ,222 and 17 will alight at block 111 and cut through the blocks..

Those who are taking buses 18,28,66,67,69,168,228 and 506, alight at BLOCK 506 (from bedok interchange), cross the road and walk towards my given direction (A,B). Those who are taking bus from Tampines, only 18, 28,69 and 67 is available from there. Therefore you alight at block 109-110 (There's a bus stop there)

Anyway i'm bringing 2 of my friends down for tomorrow's game. I think you've met them before. Remember you thrashed my team (rainbow) at Gan Eng Seng? hahaha yeah. They're Ong and Weixing. Ong previously is from the C.O.E in soccer, and weixing was brought up playing kampung soccer.

Today's loss to league leaders YV United, was rather unfortunate, as our team had put in a sterling performance. 2-1 down, we never gave up.

But after the match, the gaffer pointed out that we could have made a difference had we more players on the bench. And I think everyone can agree on this.

Although YV were play-acting scoundrels, who attempted to wound Meng, Neil and Adrian Ng on several occasions, they had a team to be envious of, in terms of participation. EVERYONE WAS THERE, from their physios, kit manager, team manager, assistants, players and even their Wags and kids were present. This shows their team spirit, their commitment. Everyone (at YV) wanted the team to do well.

SLK on the other hand, could only name a bench of TWO subs. We even had to call in Chao to give us a further option on the bench. Kudos to all 14 (Chao makes 15) who were present today; the true SLK-ians who wore the shirts with pride. We played with a 100% commitment, but the lack of fresh legs was a major contributing factor to the defeat. I'm sure everyone present will agree on this to various extents. I think we can applaud those frequent AWOL players for putting us in this predicament.

It is not the first time we could hardly name a bench. We only had two subs against Madraz, for example. It is really appalling that these players (whom I shall not name) call themselves SLK, but don't even turn up for matches, or even bother to tell the captain whether they're turning up. It's a crying shame really. Look at the players that turned up today- Andre has a test tomorrow, but he still came to play for the team. Meng had a family event to attend to, but he still made his appearance. I have a project to rush for Monday, but I still came. If these players were like those frequent AWOLs, we couldn't even have named a starting XI.

So what's the reason for not coming? Played too much eff-ing computer games? Studying for the A-levels? It's all absolute ludicrous. When our Captain asked whether we wanted to participate in the AFL, we were almost unanimous in agreement. Now where are these douchbags? Don't give such reasons as "studying for the A-levels". I think everyone can agree (even your teachers), that if you plan your time properly, you will have time for SLK on Sunday. You made a commitment. You promised your Captain. Now where the hell are you? Look at Joshua, Terence, Jie Long and Tian Shuo amongst others. They're in JCs too, but week-after-week, they play for the team. It's different if you have a test tomorrow or in the coming week. But "studying for A-levels"? Come the f*** on. It's three months away. Plan your time, there's no excuse. If Joshua, Terence, Jie Long and Tian can do it, I don't see why the AWOL-ers can't.

And as for the rest of us, we have school as well. Project deadlines, assignments and such. But we still turn up for the team. Some of us have other commitments as well; religion, relationships, work, or even other sports. But we still turn up week-after-week.

So, stand up and be counted. Don't call yourself SLK if you don't even care for your team. You are wasting everybody's time and money. Don't say "I played too much computer games", or "I'm studying for the A-levels". You might as well say you're preparing for your wedding. You made a commitment, now be a man, and turn up for the fixtures. It's one thing if you have a valid excuse; family event or if there are tests in the coming week. But if you just keep silent and not turn up for matches, you might as well turn your shirt in. Don't think about calling yourself SLK if you don't care for the team.

Plan your time. There is no excuse.

A shout-out to those who turn up week-in-week-out to play. I think we can be proud of our performances. Be proud to wear that white shirt.

We were unfortunate to lose ( as per all the games we lost ) . It was a very well played game from both sides, one that produced another fine display from the SLK lads.

YV United were clearly way out of our league. It was a case of David against 2 Goliaths this time round. Getting poked from the front and the back ain't a good feeling ( you can ask quek, he constantly engages in these... ) , and soon you would succumb to the pressure and come....apart.

YV had a hell lot of chances during the course of the game, only to find themselves firing blanks against the solid defence and the safe keeping of stand-in keeper Joey. The first half ended goalless, which boosted the confidence of the SLK lads. Unfortunately, SLK conceded 2 goals within 5 mins shortly after the 2nd half resumed which clearly dented the confidence of the lads.

But the lads simply won't allow YV to win without putting up a fight. After some good play from Joshua he made a pass towards Auggy, who had 3 options- 1) Pass to the unnmarked Quek calling for the ball down the left wing, 2) Eat the ball or 3) Just shoot. As Auggy was around 35m away from goal, most people would have thought that Auggy would eat the ball so that they would replace it with the Roteiro ( which was much easier to strike ). However, he chose to take a wild shot at goal. The opposing goalkeeper was uncertain of whether he should pretend to make an attempt to save the shot ( since it was going in ) , but by the time he figured out what to do, he had to pick the ball out from the net.

The lads were fired up. We tried to go for the equaliser, but unfortunately we were defending in numbers as YV went in search for the killer 3rd goal.

Losing 2-1 to the top team in the league is actually considered a good result for SLK. But the lack of players to call upon clearly affected us as we lacked the extra fresh legs to challenge the vast army of YV players. It was commented by Gaffer during post-match that it is time to go in search for commited and technically-gifted players to cover up for the lack of numbers every game. If players are not commited to turn up for games, i see no reason why we should reject the words of Gaffer's.

Work hard and train hard. Til Sunday we shall meet.

Spending my last few bits of energy to do a small write-up for the next match which I would probably not be available, upon the request of our dear captain. Like all suggested gameplan, do go ahead with better suggestions if there are. Otherwise, here's presenting Christmas Fortress 4-3-1-2. (A.k.A 7-2-1):

Quick Summary:
YV United. Best team in the league so far. I'm sure their records must have at least dampen our confidence a little. Don't fret guys, if we can't beat them, let us at least try to force them into a draw. Remember the spirit we put up against Team Impulse? We need another replica of that.

As the optimistic one, I do not believe in putting men behind ball at all times. This is why I believe the 4-3-1-2 will give us the right balance of attack and defence:

For this game, we'll start off with a cautious approach; 4 defenders with 3 DMs. Expect them to throw everything forward in a confident manner ala Team Impulse. The plan is simple - we will attack on the counter. Why? Reason being they will never think we are capable and bold enough to even try to attack them. The element of surprise can be thus said to be on our side. During a counter-attack: 1. ball out of defence quick and fast to link-man Auggy. 2. Quek and Long to push up and support Auggy; i.e transition to our original 4-1-3-2. 3. Chris to hold the midfield should the ball out to attackers be unsuccessful. 4. WBs DO NOT OVERLAP ON FLANKS! ... for a counter-attack to be successful, recovery of team from thwarting the opposition's attack must be fast, and so should the passes. Attackers must be quick and agile, confident of running at players. As usual, the summary are all in bold.

Let's do our best yes? We will at least give YV a tough time I believe!

P.S - IF we take the lead... might consider throwing our DM Jo to switch for Quek to hold the line more effectively.... if there is a danger of being overrun in midfield.

Post-Match Review ( v.s Team Inpulse )

If i am to summarise the match against Team Inpulse in a few words, i would probably have said these 3 words - David against Goliath.

SLK FC, the youngest kids on the block ( bar one particular mother-f..... ), were quickly gaining a reputation of '' The team to beat ''. However, it is not said in the same positive manner like the EPL teams on Man Utd. We have lost our first 3 games in the league, conceding a total of 17 goals and only scoring 1.

Team Inpulse, on the other hand, went into the game high on confidence having won 2 high-scoring games in a row. 2nd in the league and boasting an attack line-up that had already scored 8 goals, they were expected to increase SLK's alarming negative goal difference.

However, things did not go according to script for Team Inpulse. It seemed that SLK were determined to ruin the party for them. The lads were boosted by the fact that despite losing the first 3 games, SLK is not the last placed team in the league. ( woohoo!! ) We were hyped up for the game and gave it our all. We certainly played with all our ( Cherie ) Hearts.

Everything from the defence to the attack was solid. It was as though it was a top-of-the-table clash, with both teams well balanced out in all aspects. ( except that the opponents had to use a video camera to record down how well SLK played, whereas in our case, we used our minds to record down this moment. )

When the final whistle was blown, it was as though SLK won the AFL league. Though it wasn't a victory for us, it was certainly a result worth celebrating. The expressions on the lads' faces after the match showed it all. It was, simply, a moment worth relishing.

As we gear ourselves up for the upcoming game, i would like to congratulate the lads on their dragon-slaying performance yet again. Everyone single one present on Sunday certainly made their pressence felt one way or another. Merci Beaucoup.

This Sunday is the make-or-break game in SLK's 'professional' history. According to Boon's words, it is '' The Battle of the Basement''.

as we busk in the turn of the tables and beating the odds. we look back, on our mistakes. okie, im gg to write something due to a special request from a particular number 17.
first of all, i applaud all of you, everyone of you, on the bench and on the field. everyone plays a part. like what JL wrote on his blog. do it for st pats, do it for slk. esp tian whom i heard didnt get a slice of the palpable action. you are the guy with the tactics man, equally vital in our plot.
ok i know the celebrations are a lill bit too early and we haven emerged victorious in this endeavour, but we're getting there, step by step. look, almost if not all our opponents in this league are much bigger size than me, ok, maybe im just small. but they're definitely bigger in age. however like they say the bigger they are, the harder they fall. we must keep this confidence and raise our game to a higher level.
and our defence today was ROCK SOLID. i applaud you all. with a stable defence, we can begin to look for ways to break apart the other teams defence.
our passes are astonishing compared to how we previously just aim empty sprays to one another.
we are beginning to look like a side that may well be feared.
lets not get complacent here. i know the next match is against the bottom team ( rejoice we are no longer at the bottom ) these games are the one we should strive to win. with physological advantage we have the edge over them. go for the win people, i know we can do it.
oh well. one must look ahead, with even the gods siding us by allowing a team, (uts) to be banished to the relegated zone that is lower than us, i see no reason why we shouldnt continue our unbeaten run.

okie first of all.
i've got this feeling that we're gonna win tomorrow. hopefully this feeling comes true. lets go do a wigan tomorrow. nothing to lose. nothing but pride matters now.

next i think its time to put some pressure on the strikers, ( me included ). strikers are there for a purpose, they are there to score some goals. we havent been able to do that successfully in the league. i know we're gonna break that scoring duck really soon, maybe even tomorrow. without goals, even if we do not concede we will not win. theres a saying that adrian wrote in one of the previous post. "he who tries succced" where theres shots, there will be goals. so take shots with confidence. aim for the target though.

also next is communication, which has been stressed again and again. if you're gonna take on the guy with the ball, ask someone to cover you. pressure him, contain until you are confident of robbing the guy of the ball. in lilo and stitch theres a word "ohana" it means family. in a family everyone looks after each other. a team is like a family. we must all do our part to defend ( sorry if i haven effectively done that ) and attack. sorry if i say naggy. oh well. i think we work best on counter attacks, thats when teams are most vulnerable. maybe we should work on that.

last of all, we must acknowledge the most important guy in the whole game, the keeper. w/o JR and JO, results will be much worst.

tomorrow's our fourth game, they say fourth time lucky eh? as the russian roulette swings in our favour, with endeavour, we will prevail. yeah and so will england tonight. hahaha. k then ciao.

for those of you who don't have your own transport to the field direct itself this Sunday, do meet up Yishun Bus Interchange at 1530hrs SHARP (BAK PLS BE ON TIME, you wouldn't want SLK to be the next UTS.) From there, hop onto bus 800, it stops right in front of the school itself, just check for 2 condominiums opposite the school. The field is quite on the other side of the school, so do find a way to go in. Do be there at about 4pm. Need any help for directions just call me, I should be going there direct myself.

I guess whatever formation we play, the key thing is to know who plays where and to always keep your heads up. then you'll be able to see who's running where and stuff. we also need to be moving into space to give others another option for passing.

do watch how ronaldinho plays. from the centre he pases the ball off, but he doesnt always make the run forward. he drops back to create space for himself so that whoever is on the ball can pass it back to him if there is no other option.

so what i suggest is that we can all watch the world cup and take note of how each player plays with regards to your own position. for example, chris will focus more of viera/makelele/emerson, whereas I myself will take more notice of rooney/totti and such. try to see how they play so u get a better pictre of where to position yourself and where to play the ball when ur in possesion.

A Very Possible Gameplan.

Hands up those who caught the brawl of a game between Portugal and The Netherlands. There can be alot of lessons learnt from the match, but let's focus on the positives. This is not, by any measure the final word on the tactics. This is just an observation from the match.

The Netherlands' Formation:
Marco Van Basten's side played with a 4-3-3 formation, as we all know. And (as we all know so well), the 4-3-3 has not reaped huge dividends for us.

Firstly, since not all of us possess good aerial technique, we should stop lobbing balls to our frontmen, and instead, focus on our short passes and our hold-up play. Against Real Madraz, the midfield managed to link up decently, and we had fab chances to claw back goals when we were 0-2 down.

Secondly, previously, when we played 4-3-3 previously, the three central midfielders were left to cover the flanks and the three strikers didn't help out defensively. That was because although we could name players for the positions, the players didn't know their roles.

Okay, so when I was watching the Tactical channel (ch 28), I noticed this was how Van Basten ordered his side to play.

Since we are always "lamenting" than we are being over-run in central midfield, putting three men in the centre will restore stability.

When attacking, the two MCs could roam forward, while the DMC sits back in the middle of the park (or in front of the defence). Since the DMC will not attack, he will provide defensive cover for the back. And the two FBs can roam around mid-park to support the attack on the flanks. The "side" FCs can pull back a little link up with the MCs or FBs. We've got a great chance if we can manage to hold-up play, and play alot of passes inside the opposing half. The most important thing about Van Basten's formation is that the FBs are a prevalent force in midfield, and are the link between defence and attack. Italy also employs this technique to great effect.

Right now, we are just pumping the balls out of defence. We have good defenders, and rather exceptional FBs in Farhan and Joey. Both players are pacey and can distribute the ball pretty well, and are technically sound. So the game-plan so far would be for the DCs to win the balls at the back, and distribute to the FBs. The FBs can then run down the line to supply the attack, or to distribute the balls to the MCs. No need to worry about defence, we have 3 men back at any one time. A likely candidate for DMC role would either be Chris Wee or Adrian Tan.

Chris could play a "Gattuso" role, running around to win balls and to spoil the opponents' game. Once the ball is won, he could play it for the FBs or the MCs. Another candidate is Adrian Tan. He is an excellent tackler, ball-winner and and execptional passer as well. He could play a "Carrick" role, skilfully winning balls back and spraying accurate passes. He is more than just a normal centre-back, and we should exploit that.

When we are being attacked, the DMC and the MCs could try to stem the attack, and once the ball is won, counter-attack quickly. We will definately have control of the park, as we have 3 men in the centre and 2 men on either flank. So, we practically have 5 men in the midfield at any one time. Excellent for attack, excellent for defence. And when our midfield is breached, the FBs could run back to help out, while the DMC could drop back in front of central defence. Hence effectively, we have five men in defence as well.

Now, the MCs' job is to link up the midfield play and the attack. They could do well to hold-up play and to spread play to the wings. The "side" FCs could provide width by going wide, or the FBs could attack it. Hence, the MCs should be strong players who can play accurate balls and control the middle of the park at the same time. Strong candidates for this role would be Jie Long or Augustine. Jie Long is a midfield hard-man who can pass like Pirlo, and he can hold the park pretty well with the DMC. Augustine on the other hand, will be the creative spark, the "Totti" role. However, he should remember to return to the middle when we are on the defensive. Josh could plug the hole in the event that Augustine is unavailable.

For the front three, we should put Josh and Quek as the "side" FCs. With their relative speed and goal prowess, we should be very potent in front. They could help out on the flanks and in attack as well. The candidates for the middle FC could be Wah or I. Both of us can run and create problems in the box, and provide an extra attacking force in front of goal. The two centre DCs, I would reckon a Bak and Adrian pairing would be the strongest.

So, our formation would ulitmately look like this:

So actually, on paper, we're a good side. Playing a 4-3-3, all we have to do is to keep the ball in the opposing half and keep playing short passes and through passes. Use the flanks as much as possible. With Long(Pirlo) and Soong(Totti) holding the park and distributing, we can get very good chances. And our Zambrotta and Cole; Joey and Farhan can run along the flanks to support the attack and to help out in defence as well. And with "Chris Gattuso" and Adrian "Carrick" Tan, we have almost 3 centre-backs at any given time. And Zlatan, Owen, Villa and Tevez in front of goal, with Tevez and Zlatan helping out on the flanks.

This tactic works because we will have much more width than playing a conventional 4-4-2. The defence and midfield are linked via the FBs; no more lobbing hopeless balls. The FBs and side FCs will provide much width and overlapping runs. THREE central midfielders will control the park with the FBs and occasionally, the side FCs. So, the midfield is packed. Jie Long will provide the crunching tackles, "Chris Gattuso" will spoil their game, and Augustine Totti will provide the incisive passes. Soong and Long can also try the occasional long shot. Josh and Quek can provide attacking width, while Owen or Villa lurks about.

The most important thing about width play, Tian, is to draw players to the flanks, so the middle can open up, and our players can support. Your idea is good, but it's not really for SLK. We have tried ramming it through the middle to disasterous effect against Sofenee. Against Madraz, we utilised Quek for most parts, and occasionally the left flank. There's understandbly still a lot of room for improvement for our flank play, but we're on the right track. This 4-3-3 formation gives us incredible width, packs the midfield, keeps us safe in defence, and makes us extremely potent in attack, with three strikers.

This formation has incredible potential for us. Chris and Adrian, you should seriously consider this. And team mates, all comments are welcomed.

Dropping by to suggest a possible gameplan. Take your time to read this and hopefully you guys will like it and use it. Here it goes...

SLK grew up on the street soccer court. Hence it can be said that the more technically-gifted players are able to string reasonably good short passes and 1-2s in attack. Our major weakness on the 11-a-side field in offense has to be the collection of long passes. I'm sure many of you agree our first touch need some improvement. Hence I would like to propose the scraping of the 4-4-2 system for another plan....the 4-1-3-2. I will justify why in a few moments...

No wingers? Are you sure?
Why the need for wingers? The purpose of wingers are of course, to provide crosses. But then again, one must track back and observe the nature of our forwards - Wah and Auggy are certainly not known for their aerial prowress and being rather on the short and smaller side(for Wah) it will be best to play to their strength - their footwork. In addition, the crosses made in recent games are not exactly productive and this can be due to the fact we have not been dealing with the dynamics of crossing on the 11-a-side field as we did not have to on the street soccer courts. Only when we have successfully raised our game should we consider opting for wingers.

Hmmm..Quek on the left...Jielong on the right...
Yupp. Here's why. Since the 4-1-3-2 will be putting our 3 AMCs together, it will be easy for opponents to defend by tightening things up with 1-2 DMs in the particular area. Hence to effectively attack, we will need to create spaces by opening up. Now this is when switching Quek to the left and Jielong to the right might prove to be the surprise. During an attack, these 2 players are to dribble out far wide to pull defenders towards them and therefore open up vital spaces. As we all know Quek is right-footed/both, Jielong is mainly left footed, but both are well-known for their decent dribbling skills (thus it should be a manageable task). Now if I could lay down an instruction it would be this: Defenders will be anticipating crosses but as I mentioned...try not to cross. Use the stronger foot to cut back and lay it for Josh who should by now have enough spaces to let his creativity and technical gift do the work (In short he's almost the playmaker). Now he has 3 options: He can take potshots at goal, send through balls to our forwards or simply lay it back to the wingers...there's so much that can be done...the opponent can only, at best, guess.

Why so gung-ho?
After 4 matches, we have only scored 1 goal. We need to score...

Overall Plan:
This plan set off with us playing a high-attack mentality. For SLK, it bears truth that defending will only make us shooting ducks. However, wing-backs are expected not to overlap much since the formation leaves much work to be done on the defensive flanks. Unless you are blessed with stamina and reasonable technical abilities (E.g Farhan), it will be best to just lean back and keep the defence up. Chris will be the link-up man between defence and attack so he's gonna do a hell lot of running to support Josh and at the same time provide cover for the back 4. String short-passes to make up for our lack of first touch and accuracy, and to take advantage of how much we hon them while playing street. Finally, something cheeky - on the issue of crossing, it is not always a no-no. However it would be good to switch Josh and Auggy in their positions before employing crosses for a couple of reasons; Auggy is equally excellent in distribution of the ball so he can fit in nicely into Josh place (refer above). The catch here is that Josh would be playing in his natural position as a striker and he's probably the only attacker capable enough of threatening the opponent's goal with his head (as a forward). We can then be more hopeful crosses will bear fruit. To conclude, for a summary of gameplan, refer to the bold statements in this paragraph.

Well that's the end of my suggested gameplan...for now. Comments will be good. Its high time we set off the game knowing our individual roles. Good luck guys! =D

i havent written anything in a while.
first of all we played really well on sunday. it was well worth my trip down.
we're getting better. we just need that little bit of confidence and believe in ourselves. yeah and we ALSO need that wee bit more of stamina, people please try and train ( including me ) cause sometimes unforseen circumstances might crop up and our sub bench might be limited.
secondly, we have played beautifully, our link up play has improved largely and we're creating chances, save for chris hitting that bar. our much awaited goal beckons.
oh and p.s. and cheers to chris wee for claiming balls to be his by shouting chri's ball. it gives you morale and brings up some confidence. you can also try daryl's bloodlust. well maybe some are non-applicable to both. oh well.
no pressure on any of you guys, matches are to be enjoyed, not screaming and shouting at each other, ( sorry if i'm guilty of that ) play with a smile on your face ( sarcastic or otherwise )
communication is vital, its been emphasized many times over. w/o it, we're like the blind navigating a lost cause. any conflict of any sort, if any, should be left outside the pitch. on the pitch, everyone are teammates. football is a team game, hopefully we can string together a series of passes like spain and emulate that fantastic goal.

Hey guys, i was thinking, we should have an idea on how we should play, cos like for every match we seem clueless. Adrian or Chris should tell the players their roles cos everytime, we play like headless chickens --running everywhere. We should have a clear gameplan, be it pumping long balls to the strikers or playing a passing game. I prefer the latter cos if we have possession, we would be in control of the match. Let's string passes together and not take potshots at goal cos none of us is as good as Gerrard. Haha...

Hey, lets delete this as soon as possible in case there's team leechers out there,. Well we certainly talk about short passes and more teamwork and all but without a clear plan or idea how we're gonna do it. Most of the time we're just doing long balls to Wah,.. We have the idea of starting 4-4-2 or 5-3-2 or 3-4-3 or whatsoever but it's not like we're gonna stay there like playing fooseball cause most likely we're gonna run all over the pitch n become haywire.. Well i have basically thought of this because it was effective against Siling FC for awhile, don't be fooled, this is only how the plan would look like initially but as players would be running all over the pitch, hopefully we can draw them away so the target man could shoot.. Well simply the target man is the sweeper, yep the sweeper, When we get the ball, we pass it back to the heart of the defence to the sweeper, he'll pass it left or right depending on his choice to whoever is there to recieve it(not the defence) either the LM or the RM, they'll have to move left of right to recieve it, next they'll terrorise the flanks(or appear so) meanwhile the sweeper runs up unnoticed, as the other team draws near to the flank, he'll pass back to the sweeper or RM whichever to shoot, the 2 strikers would push up or try to draw the defence line back, if they can, they also could support the wings or (as there are 2 strikers) 1 will support n 1 will wait for the rebound if the goalkeeper fumbles or parries the sweeper's shot..Or alternatively if the sweeper decides to play through ball,the striker can get ready for his run.. the aim for the striker though is to buy the sweeper some time on the pitch..The 4 defenders meanwhile stand their grould and wait for any mistakes.. Overall it should look like this

There was alot of pre-match hype coming to this game. We had inside info regards to our opposition's style of play thanks to Sam and JR. We had hoped to use this to give us the edge over them. Well, at least we hoped so.

A number of players did not turn up for this game, thus resulting in only 3 substitutes to be called upon when needed. That proved to be costly as our tired legs simply couldn't catch up with the pace and power of Team Sofeene's attacking play. The final result did not really showcase the actual displays of both teams. Kudos to Team Sofeene for their fine display of attacking football and sportsmanship- they didn't start fooling around despite holding such a huge lead over us. They have earned our respect.

Many positives could be taken from this game. A clear one would be the flow of our attack. We have finally started to learn that football is a team game, and passes have to be made. We managed to string a number of successful passes amongst us before trying out for goal. This was a vast difference as compared to our virgin game, where practically only Augustine was the one taking opponents on his own before trying out for goal.

With that said, i appreciate the fact that you guys have simmered down and stopped giving the blow-dryer treatment to our own mates. There were no cursing( bar the incident where Gaffer was thirsty for some MILF action ) during the game, only compliments and encouragments were given out.

I see improvements in our play as we engage in the games weekly. So hold your heads up high my lads, let's start raking in points in our league yea?

*Special mention: Joshua put in his usual display in today's game. His work-rate, dribbling and off-the-ball runs created a number of chances for the team and also himself. It was unfortunate he couldn't get himself a goal though, but for his fine efforts he is presented the SLK Man-of-the-Match award. Well done.

On another note, JR made a number of Peter Cech-like saves to keep the scoreline more respectable. His efforts in goal was very much appreciated.

By the way, the post-match report for this game is posted on the AFL website by Gaffer already.

Our friendly against Rollercoaster was a good trial out game. We won them 5-2 with new boys Chris and Tian ( yes, tian ) getting a goal each in the game. Wah received a boost of confidence when he scored 2 goals today. Long,operating as a supporting striker, got himself on the scoresheet when he headed a corner from Chao. I thank Chao for coming to play today, ensuring that we would at least have 11 players.

The rain must have been a sign from above. We were feeling very optimistic about today's game. Jon, the AFL guy, called me yesterday night regarding some admin stuff and actually gave me some insight about SRC Deaf. They are a bunch of fit players who have lots of pace in their attacks. So when it was gonna rain, i knew it would be our day, playing against them in a wet pitch.

Alas, it wasn't meant to be. The match was canceled as the pitch was deemed unsuitable to be played on. The fixtures have been pushed forward to the next, with Team Sofeene being our next opponents. Please check the AFL website for more details.

Kudos to all of you, real proud of you guys. With this burning desire to go all out as a team, i am confident we will put in a better performance as compared to our virgin game.

Our next game is against SRC Deaf. They won their previous game against Team Inpulse 3-2.

The field is located at Jin Tai Secondary School- 170 West Coast Road, SG 127443.

We shall meet up at CLEMENTI MRT at 3pm. From there, we will be taking either bus service 96 or 285. The bus ride would be estimated to be around 40mins long. Please be on time. If you are unable to make it on time or would prefer going there straight, please inform either quek or i. As usual we would be taking our pre-match photos, so that's an added incentive to be there on time.

Yes Boon, that means you would have to bring your camera along again... Ahahahaha.

Jus some things I wanna add over here.

First of all, just wanna apologise to everyone for shouting at you guys so much.

You guys did well except for several costly errors which led to us losing the game. Each and everyone of you know you have the talent, the skills, no matter how much or how little. In this team it doesnt matter. As long as each of us does our part in helping everyone on.

I felt there was not much spirit during Sunday's game thats why i was trying so hard to drive everyone on. I'm sorry for doing it the harsh way. What we need now is for everyone to keep on encouraging whoever's on the pitch. We gotta play with heart.

Techinically, we've got alot to work on, but we'll improve as each match passes. Main concern now is the defence. Very flat at the back. I'll try to do an experimental line up for you guys for the CJ game. I wont be playing but Captain will lead you guys surely.

This team is built on friendship. We'll go a long way. I respect each and everyone of you for your efforts.

Sorry for the late post match review guys. This will be a short review, so here goes...

Starting Line Up:

In view of not wanting our midfield to be totally bulldozed by our opponents, Captain elected to so start off the game with a 4-4-2 formation instead of our "more preferred" 4-3-3 formation.

The game got off to a slow start with SLk constantly losing possession and not keeping the ball. This culminated in the opposition taking the lead. Losing the ball in midfield once again, the housemovers (quote: jielong) got hold of possession once again and with a sweet right foot drive, scored the 1st goal of the match leaving stand-in keeper, Joey Ng with no chance.

Score: 1-0

The housemover's lead, however, did not last 2 seconds. Right from the restart, striker, Terence Wah feeling confident, decided to take a shot from the half-way line. As the saying goes, luck favours the brave and in this case, his brave attempt from the halfway line proved worthwhile as the shot struck the post and trickled into the net, leaving the keeper stranded.

Score: 1-1

Wah's goal doubled up as a morale booster to the team as we seemed to grow in confidence as time went by. However, we weren't able to hold on to the 1-1 score until half time. A ball swung in from the left by the opponents got our defenders scrambling and led to the housemovers taking the lead once again.

Soong was brought in to replace Wah to try and inject some sting into our attack. Chances came and gone but we were unable to draw level by half-time.

Half-time Score: 2-1

Half-time team talk was led by right back, Tan Tian Shuo. After some talking through, it was evident our midfield was non-existant in the attack and was a problem area we had to solve.

The second half started and it was as if we had been injected with adrenaline during the half time break. We started off the 2nd half superbly. There was a spring in our steps and the look in our eyes showed the determination to get back into the game.

Once again, chances came and gone, with us still unable to draw level. Lady luck, however, has to take some blame here. With chances like Soong hitting the post with a free kick and Quek unable to convert a chance from a Soong cross, it was as if someone up there just refused to let the ball hit the back of the net.

What was to happen next was a kick in the teeth for the team. Despite all the possession and chances created, the housemovers extended their lead. Somehow, the housemovers took a shot and as the ball was slowly bouncing into the empty net, keeper Joey dashed to the goal line and had obviously punched the ball out before it had crossed the line. However, the blind referee did not share his view and gave the goal to the housemovers, allowing them to take a 3-1 lead.

Score: 3-1

The housemover's goal was a dent to the once high confidence of the SLk team. SLk continued to push on for another goal. Tactics were changed, subsituitions were made, but our efforts proved to be in vain as the housemovers further extended their lead, going into a commanding 4-1 lead.

Final Score: Siling Soccerer FC 4 - 1 SLk FC

SLk's Men of the Match: Joey Ng & Augustine Soong
Undoubtedly the star men of the game. Joey and Augus were the only bright sparks in our otherwise lacklustre game.

Some thoughts:

Soong: Definitely has to chill on the shouting. We know you're trying to correct your teammates, but the constant shouting might not help all the time and may even result in a reverse effect. =)

Myself: Definitely have to step-up. It was as if i did not feature in the game. Haha.

The Whole Squad: I don't think I need to say much more. Everything's already been mentioned. We need to pick ourselves up as a team and go on to do our best for the next coming matches. Let's forget about the last game, we played well below our potential. The next match would be against SRC Deaf FC. Don't expect an easy game, in fact, be prepared for an even tougher game but we're in this together, so let's give them a run for their money. Lastly, WHAT HAPPENS ON THE PITCH, STAYS ON THE PITCH.I cannot emphasize this anymore. Don't hold any grudges against anyone, should anyone of you be shouted at.

1 more last point. Go read Mr. Foo Jie Long's blog. It's been something i want to voice out a long time ago, but since he has already done it for me, it saves me my effort.

Another ting was tt many of d passes was high balls, so our strikers had a difficult time controlling. . .n kick-offs. . .gus u had a few close chances. . .but its not gonna work everytime lahz dude. . .lolz. . .

Midfield was quite empty sometimes. . .gotta populate d midfield or its gonna b hard 2 get d ball front. . .

Defence:
Bak was too slow in closing down one of d players, allowing him 2 take a shot. . .which led 2 a goal. . .defence gotta buck up. . .coz d other team had too many chances 2 shoot le. . .d other team was very aggressive. . .thus we had a lot of probs wit them. . .shld do sumting abt tt. . .

So therefore i conclude. . .

Dear Slk-ians..

decided to just drop by an entry on today's game. Well it was our virgin game and like how Adrian commented "we were poked badly". Chill yea...its after all our very 1st competitive game..I'm sure neither Man Utd nor Liverpool got off to winning starts when they first came into the EPL? (No Andre & Quek, you don't tag on the board that Kop was born a winner). I guess we just gotta pick ourselves up eh.. it is not wrong to lose, it is wrong to stop trying. Ok enuff emo talk there.. I was just thinking of introducing this thing called After Action Review (AAR). Something like what I'm gonna do. Everyone just throw in comments/feedbacks on the game and players. Enough criticism yea...all the screaming everyone got should just be left on the pitch, said and done. Now for the light-hearted stuff...more on helping us improve as we go along. Yupp. Here it goes:

Joey: Now that's a good start for your GK role... now everyone is talking bout you being the number 1, man. Pity for that 1 goal which you DID actually punch out.

Andre: Bad game eh. Don't worry la I didn't play any better either. Try not to delay on your
tackles kaez..doing so means letting opponents get better positioned for passes..etc. Just go for it confidently..if you can. Don't worry about others... they will be taken care of by the others around. (E.g. Adrians, Long)

Adrian(Tan): Our very own Jamie Carragher. No nonsense defenders. Keep up the stability bro.

Adrian: Only "mistake" was not clearing the ball for that 1 particular moment.. although he had good intentions by going up to find a pass. Yupp.

Meng: We had a short game..lol.

Daryl: Refer to Meng..

Sam: Attacking-minded Winger-Back. But make sure you run up also run down yea. lol. cut the ciggs to help you with that. LOL.

Farhan: Good game. (:

Neil: Quite a quiet game. Well better than the bad game I had.

Chris: Poor dude. Has to go everywhere like what was discussed in half-time. Guess given our lack of attacks maybe might wanna be more adventurous in future? Yupp.

Wah: Nice 1st goal there my CJ compatriot! Your voyeur the keep so much till you actually he's off his line. But sadly you were bullied out of the game for the last part of the 1st half..remember. You are not lousy like you always say eh...ineffective is different from lousy. :)

Quek: Quek the quiet. Now that isn't you. Every once in a while bad games come in. Don't be affected man. You did all you could didn't you?

Auggy: Mad screamer. Chill on that yea.. don't get so frustrated. You're the star. You lose it, we lose it.

Boon: Nice running around. But don't forget your position...and don't be afraid of the ball!!!

Team: Virgin game. Speaks for itself. We will get better as we have more practise; Recovery...remember. Open up fast. Physically we cannot beat them..so don't feel sore bout that. Maybe we can practise more in future on dealing with long balls coz we all seen how we were killed by their cross field passes. And of coz attackers try to produce more on the AMC region a.k.a the "hole" area. Not much products came out from there. Yupp. That's bout it!

Our Virgin AFL Game

Dear SLk-ians,

As all of you know, tomorrow will be our virgin AFL game. I'm sure none of you would want to screw it up in anyway, so let's start by being on time.

We are to meet at WOODLANDS MRT at 1530 hrs (3:30pm for those who don't understand the time in 24-hour format).

Our match kicks-off at 5pm sharp, so ideally, we would want to get to the pitch by 1600 hrs (4pm), and get fully warmed-up and ready for the game.

I seek your co-operation in being ON TIME at WOODLANDS MRT.

If you decide you do not want to meet at Woodlands Mrt tomorrow, please send Adrian or I a message to let us know.

Gearing up for the League.

The league begins this sunday 4 June. ( Our virgin game ) But darn it the game is held at Woodlands. Refer to the AFL site for more information. We will be wearing our ''Home" ( white ) kit.

In view of this league we are participating in, a decision has been made to improve on our game sharpness and fitness. As for this week, Friday will be your personalised fitness training whereby you can opt to head to the gym or or go for a jog. Sat morning would be light field training. Tactics and set-plays would be tried out for, so as to improve our game-play. This saturday we would be meeting at Bishan MRT station at 8.45am. We would wait up til 9am for those who are late, before heading towards our all new 'training ground'. Talks have also been undergone to employ a professional coach of the highest level. Hopefully we can get to sign him on a 'free' transfer. Ahahaha.

I have done a little touch up for the blog. By the way, comment on whether you want me to post the formation and line-up for our virgin game. Ahahahaha.

We played with heart and honour.

I apologise for the late post-match report. Well this entry is going to be long as we shall analyse the performance of our team at various stages of the game.

Squad: Everyone stated on the squad list ( left bar ) except Benjamin( mei-hueying ), Jared ( sick ), Jason ( international duty ).

*We started the game with our recently deployed 4-3-3 formation. The immense attacking pressure worked for us as Wah's determination at the left wing, followed by a strong hold-up play by Long led to the ball setting up nicely for Auggy to power a left-legged shot to the bottom right hand corner for the opening goal.

However, our lead did not last for long as a quick break down the right flank by the opposition led to a goal-mouth scramble, before the ball was bundled in for the equaliser. We need to be able to substain and hold up our opposition more properly there.

We restarted the game with gusto, determined to get ahead again. An attack resulted in a corner for us, and a quick interchange of passes between Josh and Quek led to Quek swinging in an inviting cross with his left-leg. Ng timed his run perfectly ala John Terry and powered in a header to give SLK the lead again.

Unfortunately the joy did not last for long. A strong and fast play by the opposing striker down the left flank enabled him to cut behind the defence, before passing to his teammate for a simple tap in. 2-2.

* 3 substitutions were made- Daryl and Sam came in for Meng and Tian respectively. Joey came off for Chris, who was making his debut for SLK. Chances were limited now, as both teams started playing more possesive football. Close to half time, a glorious chance for the opposing team came as their striker had the empty goal at his mercy, only for daryl to make an excellent challenge and prevented a definite goal. But his efforts were let down as the resulting corner led to the opposing team taking the lead. Poor man-marking led to an open header for the opponent, who headed in despite Sam's effort to keep the ball out. We were down 3-2.

Half time. We sat down and discussed about various key moments of the game. We were clearly stretched over the mid-field as the strikers failed to track back to help defend on a number of occasions. We opted to change to a 4-4-2* formation instead, adding an extra man in mid-field.

* Captain Adrian Ng and Vice-Captain Quek sat out for the 2nd half so as to monitor the performance of the team. With Boon upfront supported by Auggy, Neil and Wah at the wings, there's pace in our attack should we launch a quick counter. The game was evenly matched as both teams held attacks from both sides well. A moment of brilliance from Wah almost got us the equaliser, as he took a fantastic long range volley which lobbed the keeper, only for it to rebound of the woodwork. The score-line remained the same.

* Formation stood the same, with only a change of personnel. New boy Farhan made his debut for SLK at the right wing. An evenly contested 2nd half filled with excellent defending, with few attacking opportunities opening up for both sides. SLK controlled the play throughout the 2nd half, but was punished again when poor set-piece defending let us down. The opponent rose to head into an open net for their 4th goal. Boon had the chance to pull a goal back soon though, but his fine effort was well saved by their keeper.

* This was the ending line-up and formation. We strived to pull a goal back at the last 10 mins, but to no avail. However, i was pleased with the performance on certain individuals and of course, as a team. Debutees Chris and Farhan had a fairly well played game. Despite our loss we felt we were technically superior. It was the case of the better team losing.

The lack of training opportunities is still a major problem, as with our keeping dilemma. Jie Rui is unable to play for us in the AFL league, whereas Joey is only a stand-in. It's only 2 weeks to the opening game of the league. Hopefully things will turn out brightly for us.

Boon Hau posting. While waiting for Adrian's post-match report, here's a small post on the match yesterday.

We had one of the best games, in recent times yesterday, despite losing 4-2.

Looking back, I don't think there was any team so far that made us play to such a level.
The most positive thing was that we gave a spirited and driven performance, and we pushed them all the way, considering the average age of their squad was around 23 -25 years old, with a Commando in their ranks (whom Daryl called "Nakata").

From what I heard from my friend, they felt that we were a discliplined and hardworking side.
And when they saw us doing the warm-up, they were a tad intimidated; knew that we meant business.

That's what I heard from them, so hopefully we can build on this performance.

The fire in the logo is to remind us to always play with commitment, and yesterday, hopefully, we didn't disappoint our Captain and our new Gaffer.

This is the Captain posting.

Tomorrow's game will be more of a trial-run. We will be trying out new formations with players in various roles. The main point here is to monitor and decide what's best for the team as a whole.
Everyone will get to play, but i must say competition has been very stiff at SLK recently with new additions and the fact that some players have really improved alot. Please play with all you got. No one's spot is secured, not even me.

Since i received news from Andre that none of you replied to his message on rather you are available for this sunday's game, i shall presume a full squad will turn up.

I will not be posting the starting line-up for tomorrow's game. The starting line-up will not be considered as the settled 11 who will be starting every match. Please do not have the assumption. I will not start with the same 11 all the time.

Tommorow's game will be at Tampines. Meet at 4pm sharp at the MacDonalds located within the Tampines Bus Interchange.

P.S: I would hope you guys actually reply to the messages. A simple yes or no will not take up alot of time. If things stay this way, i would have to implement a rule whereby everyweek it would be you messaging to SLk instead.
